Summary:
A pinkish to lavendar-pink basslet with a series of bright red bars on the back, a reddish-orange streak on the upper part of the caudal peduncle and iridescent orange spots on the sides.

Distribution

Recorded in the Australian EEZ from Rowley Shoals off Western Australia, and the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, and the territory of Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. Found elsewhere in the tropical east-Indo-west-central Pacific.
Inhabits steep outer reefs slopes and dropoffs, forming schools near caves and ledges in depths of 25-60 m.
