A brassy to silvery trevally with many orange spots and often indistinct dusky bars on the sides. Orange-spotted Trevally can rapidly change colour to become completely yellow or yellowish-orange.

Recorded in Australia from the Ribbon Reefs, off Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west Pacific. Found on coastal reefs and along outer reef slopes or around large coral heads in depths to 70 m.
