A greyish semi-translucent goby speckled with small red spots, with a white internal stripe above the vertebral column interrupted by red dashes, an orange-red blotch on the gill cover, orange red spots and dashes on the head, and about six bars on the upper iris.
Eviota rubrisparsa has been previously confused with E. albolineata, a species found in central Oceania.

Found at Christmas Island in the Australian EEZ. Occurs elsewhere in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Inhabits sandy-rubble bottoms in depths of 4-15 m.


Dorsal fin VI + I, 9; Anal fin I, 8; Pectoral fin 16-19 (rays 11-18 often branched); Caudal fin (segmented rays) 16-17; Longitudinal scale series 25.

Dorsal/anal fin-ray formula 9/8; pectoral fin rays 16-19 (mean 18), 5-6 lower rays branched; cephalic sensory-pore system pattern I (complete); fifth segmented pelvic-fin ray 11.5-22% of fourth; branches on fourth pelvic-fin ray 5-7, 3 segments between branches; non-fimbriate genital papilla; dorsal fin filamentous (to 36.9% SL); body with no distinct large dark marks; anal fin and lower half of caudal fin dark; scattered melanophores behind eyes on nape; when alive, small red dots cover the body but these disappear when preserved in ethyl alcohol (Ref. 83982); characterized further by longitudinal scale series 25; ctenoid scales, none on head, nape, breast and pectoral fin base; body depth 4.7-5.6 in SL.


The specific name rubrisparsa is from the Latin rubrum meaning 'red', and sparsus meaning 'sprinkled', in reference to the main live colour pattern of red dots.
