Distribution

Recorded from off Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania in depths of 1200-2000 m. Elsewhere the species occurs worldwide in tropical, subtropical and temperate waters, at depths ranging from 385-2200 m.
The species generally inhabits lower continental slope waters. 

Species Citation

Nettastoma proboscideum Vaillant 1888, Expéd. scientif. Travailleur et Talisman: 84, Pl. 7 (fig. 3). Type locality: off Coast of Morocco, 30°08'N, 11°42'W, depth 2200 m.
