Summary:
A sandperch with about 6 double saddle-like markings along the back, 10 bars along the lower side, and a distinct white to yellowish wavy stripe along the midside. Males have a yellow to orange cheek and gill cover with diagonal dark-edged white lines.

Distribution |
Exmouth, Western Australia, to about Sydney, New South Wales; also reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical Indo-west Pacific. Inhabits protected bays and reef lagoons, usually in silty areas near reefs. |
