Summary:
A squirrelfish with alternating broad deep red and narrow silvery stripes, large anal fin spine bluish, a black blotch on the middle of the tail base and additional blotches at soft dorsal and anal fin bases that vary greatly in size between individuals or habitats.

Distribution |
Murion Islands and offshore reefs of Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, New Year Island, Northern Territory, and the northern Great Barrier Reef to Moreton Island, Queensland. Inhabits coral-rich areas of outer reef slopes and drop-offs to depths below 40 m. Shelters deep inside caves or under ledges during the day. |
