Genus Hypseleotris


Summary:
Australian carp gudgeons (Hypseleotris spp.) of the Murray–Darling Basin are a species complex that includes sexually reproducing taxa, and unisexual hybrid lineages that reproduce via hybridogenesis.
With the exception of H. compressa and H. klunzingeri, all southeastern Australian Hypseleotris have hybridized with each other to form multiple co-occurring stable hemiclonal unisexual lineages. Although these hemiclonal lineages are genetically identifiable, they cannot be morphologically differentiated from one of their parental taxa.
