Genus Lophiodes
Summary:
A genus of goosefishes with at least five species in Australian waters.
Species have a moderately flattened body, a very depressed broad head with smooth bony ridges between the eyes, and two spines at the rear and a spine on either side of the symphysis of the lower jaw. The gill openings extend below, behind and in front of the pectoral-fin bases.
The dorsal fin consists of three slender spines on the head, the first modified into a fishing lure, followed by 1-3 spines behind the head, some or all embedded in skin, and a rounded soft-rayed portion with 8 rays.
