Distribution

Recorded from Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef off Western Australia. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, west Pacific: Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Timor Leste.
Inhabits sheltered reefs with rich coral growth in depths to 12 m.

Similar Species

Schroeder's Combtooth Blenny differs from the Whitespotted Combtooth Blenny, Ecsenius trilineatus, (also has white spots and narrow dark lines on the body) in  having two mid-lateral close together with a series of white spots between them.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of the scientific illustrator Jack R. Schroeder whose “excellent illustrations have so greatly enhanced the usefulness of our blennioid studies”.
