Summary:
A dark greyish to greenish or brownish blenny with a complex pattern of bars and lines on the head, a whitish to pale greenish area on the upper head and upper front of the body (or whitish saddles along the back), several large black spots below the spinous dorsal fin, small whitish to pale greenish spots on the body, and small dark spots on the pectoral and caudal fins.

Distribution |
Murray Islands to the Capricorn Group, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. The species occurs elsewhere in the tropical, west Pacific. Inhabits sheltered bays and lagoons, often amongst mixed algae and coral rubble, in silty habitats at depths of 1-6 m. Often seen propping on dead coral. |

Similar Species |
Differs from the similar Salarias fasciatus in having a most dark chest and belly, along with 15 pectoral-fin rays (vs. 14 in S. fasciatus). |
