Summary:
A whitish cardinalfish with 5-6 black stripes along the side, a short narrow dark stripe behind the upper part of the eye to below the dorsal fin, and no distinct spot on the tail base.

Distribution |
From Shark Bay, Western Australia, and Ashmore and Cartier Islands, Timor Sea, to Byron Bay, New South Wales including reefs in the Coral Sea; also Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical Indo-west-central Pacific. Inhabits inshore reefs and outer reef flats, usually sheltering in holes or beneath ledges, often in areas exposed to surge. |
