Summary:
A brownish cardinalfish with a yellowish head, a white margin on the rear of the spinous dorsal fin, and a small white spot on the upper body below the last dorsal-fin ray.

Distribution

Found on the northern part of the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. The species forms small groups amongst corals, sea urchins, crinoids and algae.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Bleeker’s Dutch colleague, zoologist Jan van der Hoeven. (The ETYFish Project, http://www.etyfish.org/kurtiformes)
