Summary:
A bandfish with a prominent black stripe on the membrane connecting the maxilla and premaxilla (upper jaw bones) that extends to near the anterior end of the ascending process of the premaxilla. The inner membrane covering the posterior part of the dentary is also black. Life coloration unknown.

Distribution

Endemic to eastern Australia, from NE of Townsville, Queensland, to off Sydney, New South Wales (latitudes ~18°-34°S); trawled in depths of ~ 220‒348 m.

Colour

Adults with dorsal fin uniformly pale; membrane connecting maxilla and premaxilla with prominent black stripe extending to near anterior end of ascending process, and inner membrane covering posterior part of dentary also black. Life coloration unknown.

Etymology

Named for the Australian ichthyologist Allan R. McCulloch (1885–1925).
