Summary:
A mottled brown to reddish brown cardinalfish with 6-8 pale narrow bars on sides, pale bands radiating from the eyes and no dark spot on the gill cover.

Distribution

Rowley Shoals, WA, and Boot Reef to One Tree Island, QLD, aldo Lord Howe Island, Tasman Sea. The species occurs elsewhere in the tropical, Indo-west Pacific.
Inhabits sheltered coastal reefs and lagoons. A secretive species that often shelters among Acropora corals.
