Distribution

Darwin, Northern Territory, and the Whitsunday Islands region, Queensland, to Wooli River, Yamba, and Sydney Harbour, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in New Caledonia. Individuals or small groups inhabit silty-sand areas, rubble flats and oyster beds.

Etymology

The species is "named for Mr R. W. Leftwich Junr., of Maryborough, to whom I am indebted for many kindnesses."
