Genus Pelates


A genus of marine grunters with four species, three found in Australian waters. Species have tricuspidate teeth that are either conical or flattened; the posttemporal bone with a smooth edge and not expanded posteriorly, and covered with skin and scales; longitudinal stripes along the sides.
